The abdomen plays a vital role in health and emotional balance. Soothing a tense stomach, reducing bloating, and eliminating toxins: the benefits of Udharabhyanga abdominal massage, drawn from an ancient Indian ritual, are numerous.
With hundreds of millions of interconnected neurons in the walls of our digestive system, the abdomen is our second brain. When it is disrupted, both our body and mind suffer simultaneously. The Udharabhyanga abdominal massage helps restore the balance of vital forces within the individual, with a particular focus on the abdomen.
The massage therapist begins by asking you to inhale, filling your abdomen with air, and then exhale deeply through your mouth to help you relax. Lying on your back, you then receive a massage focused on the abdomen, alternating between smoothing, circular, draining, and vibrating movements to release tension in the organs.
The therapist massages the entire length of the large intestine (ascending, transverse, and descending colon), thereby stimulating bowel movement and the elimination of toxins. The therapist creates a circle starting at the navel, gradually expanding outward toward the edge of the abdomen, adjusting the massage based on what they sense, with care and kindness.
This massage is particularly effective for relieving constipation, reducing bloating, or preparing for a diet; it also soothes intestinal issues. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women or immediately after eating.
